It was about an hour flight to Dharamshala and our first sight getting off of the plane was the beautiful Himalayan mountains. We could already tell the weather was going to be much cooler here and the area would be a nice break from the chaos of the city.
We settled in at the Norling Guest House at Norbulingka Institute, where each room was decorated with beautiful art featuring an animal. Our room was the parrot room. We ate our meals at the Hummingbird Cafe, and at our first meal we were welcomed by an interesting blue bird.
We received a tour of the Institute from Dachung, our tour guide, where we got to see several studios and watch some Tibetan artists at work, including the wood carving studio and the thangka painting studio. We also went to the temple, and later got to sit in on a community prayer.
