Norbulingka Institute is where we stayed while in Dharamsala (pronounced like Darr-ahm-shala). (I was not sure how to say the word until we were on the plane.) Each room in the Norling house at Norbulingka had an animal themed room. Mine was the parrot room. The knot-like pattern is one of the Tibetan auspicious symbols that can be found all over Dharamsala.
Outside the Norling house was an octagonal structure made of stone and on each side there was a little shine with an engraving of a figure and several engravings of text to go along with it. This rubbing was associated with Buddha.
